Something More Personal…
Early Years
I was born in Mazatlán, Mexico and moved to the United States as a child. During my childhood I was a target in a murder-for-hire scheme, I lived in poverty and had to eat rotten beans at times, I lived in a house that was infested with cockroaches and rats, I was molested, a close relative tried to stab me on my back, I was bullied by 3 girls with a knife who said they were going to kill me after school, I was intentionally left in a desert, I became homeless. When I was 14, I almost drowned in a riptide, I was attacked and almost raped, and I was grabbed to be taken in Mexico.
Needless to say, my childhood was not always easy.
But when I was nine years old, while going through some of these traumatic events, something very special happened to me and I felt like a lightbulb switched on in my head: I fell in love with Learning. I loved studying, taking tests, competing in academics, and participating in everything that had a sign-up sheet. I was eager to push my personal limits and I didn’t want to miss a thing. Perhaps this was my way of distracting myself from a lot of negative things happening in my life, but the greatest thing about this is that I learned to apply myself to something that made me feel empowered to be the best I could be… and that was the beginning of why I am here today doing what I do… to inspire women to never give up and never lose hope.
Things I Enjoy
In my free time I love being outside in nature. I love hiking and going on backpacking trips. In 2017, my daughter and I backpacked 500 miles in the desert. In 2018, I backpacked solo for 1100 miles in the desert and in the Sierra Nevada in California.
As much as I love adventure and challenging myself in everything I do, my very favorite thing to do is spending time with family, pets, and myself (silent meditation).
This is a family picture of my husband, me, my mom in the center, my daughter, and my son.
I took this picture standing at the top of Mt. Whitney in the Sierra Nevada in California.
